Hypertension & Chronic Kidney Disease Health Impact
Arterial Hypertension known as the "silent killer" affects more than 20% of the population worldwide. It is a major cause of premature death and a number of preventable disorders such as stroke, heart attack, and chronic kidney disease. Only 42% of adults with hypertension are diagnosed and treated (WHO, 2023)
Estimated prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) worldwide is 8-16%.
However, in people over 60, in those with diabetes, hypertension or heart disease it increases up to 1 in 3.
People with CKD have three-fold increase of the risk for cardiovascular problems such as angina, heart attack, heart failure or stroke.
